Mother and Baby Unit
BJP was commissioned by Her Majesty’s Prison Service to undertake the mechanical and electrical services design for the Mother and Baby Unit at HMP Eastwood Park.
The Mother and Baby Unit, the first of its type in the South West of the Country, was to be a two-storey construction incorporating facilities for mothers and babies up to toddler age.
As part of the design approach, security measures in line with HMPS requirements were to be met, whilst incorporating an environment suitable for mother and baby.
The ground floor comprised Crèche area, Baby Kitchen and Feeding, Kitchen, Dining Room, Laundry and Education area.
The first floor comprised combined Mother and Baby Bedrooms, Mother Bathrooms, Child Development/Baby Bathing and Staff Training.
Mechanically, the building services included low surface temperature and under floor heating, supply and extract ventilation systems, oil fired boiler plant, underground fuel storage facility and BEMS facility.
Electrically, the building services included lighting, power, structured data/IT, telephones, general alarm, external floodlighting, CCTV, lightning protection, cell call, PA system and lift installation.
