The Loxton Road site of Weston College consists of a very large academic building containing numerous classrooms, lecture theatres and a cafeteria. The central library required a complete refurbishment, expanding the size of the library and removing the outdated building services. The College requested that cooling and mechanical ventilation be added to the new library. Several new IT spaces were created and new lighting and data was required throughout.
BJP carried out load assessments of the existing building to make sure the plans were feasible. A full design of the new building services was undertaken, showing where connections and disconnections could be made as well as the full layout of the proposed M&E equipment.
The entire project was to be completed in just a three-month period. To make this timeframe possible BJP attended weekly meetings and worked very closely with the contractor and architect, answering questions on site and carrying out further design as the job progressed whenever required.
A roof mounted plant area was identified as the only available pace for a new air-handling unit. BJP designed the new AHU to fit on a very small footprint, moving nearby solar panels to create the space and make the design viable.
Throughout this short project BJP displayed a ‘can do’ attitude to the works, taking full responsibility for all services and working with the construction team to ensure the clients wishes were fulfilled. The project was completed on time and to a very high standard.
